Dark Phoenix or X-Men: Dark Phoenix, is an upcoming superhero film. It is based on the characters of Marvel Comics, X-Men. It is one of the most anticipated movies of 2019 and fans have been kept excited by two trailers. It is the twelfth installment of the X-Men franchise and a sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse, which was released in 2016. This movie is written and directed by debut director Simon Kinberg and is set to be released in June, 2019.
Plot
The movie is set a decade after
the events of X-Men: Apocalypse and the X-Men are declared national heroes.
They go on increasingly risky missions and during one of the missions in space,
they are caught up in a cosmic explosion. One of them, Jean Grey, is hit by a
mysterious cosmic force and is almost killed. She returns home much more
powerful yet even more unstable. Her powers are unleashed in an uncontrolled
way and the X-Men are faced with the strongest enemy. They start falling apart
but they must find a way to stay united before the situation gets worse. They have
to save not only Jean but the also the world from aliens who wish to rule the
galaxy.
Cast
Sophie Turner: Plays Jean Gray, one of the students of Charles Xavier, and Phoenix, an entity with infinite powers.
Jennifer Lawrence: Plays Raven Darkholme/Mystique, a mutant with shape-shifting powers and Charles Xavier’s adopted sister.
Jessica Chastain: Plays an alien who controls Phoenix.
James McAvoy: Plays Charles Xavier, the most powerful telepath and the founder of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
Michael Fassbender: Plays Erik/Lehnsherr, a mutant who controls magnetic fields and metal.
Nicholas Hoult: Plays Hank McCoy/Beast, a mutant with superhuman abilities and a teacher at Xavier’s School.
Direction and
Production
Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon
Kinberg and produced by Todd Hallowell, Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner and
also, Simon Kinberg. In 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past erased the events of
X-Men: The Last Stand of 2006 from the series' timeline and X-Men: Apocalypse
introduced younger versions of several characters including Storm, Cyclops,
Nightcrawler, and Jean Grey from the original X-Men films to give them a new
origin story.
Release
Dark Phoenix was previously set to be released on November 2, 2018 but now it is scheduled for a release on June 7, 2019. The trailers have teased us twice and we can’t help but be excited to watch the movie ourselves.
