Avoid fitness clichés !!! Be a smart fitness freak!!

“Don’t work out because you think you ‘need’ to. Do it because your body deserves love, respect and healthy attention”- DEMI LOVATO

A human being is considered fit when he is in a proper state of mind, physically active and healthy. It is a state of being free from any kind of illness or disease. Everyone must be aware of the saying- “stay fit and fine”.

Not only youngsters, but even adults have also become a fitness freak these days. The fashion industry is a great influence among teenagers which portrays fitness in a specific light. In order to get a toned and fit body, most of the people start following various fitness clichés without even realizing the truth behind them. Cliché is some phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.

Here is a list of some most popular clichés related to fitness

Weight training is not just about bulking up

It is usually associated with huge bulging muscles, but in reality, it offers a lot more benefits. It is rightly said, “The pain you feel today will be the strength you need tomorrow”. Weight training increases your muscle strength, gives you a proper figure, prevents injuries and enhances your work efficiency. Everyone requires strong muscles to carry out daily routine work with ease. Weight training exercises help you build explosive strength that help you gain power and tone. But make sure, you work equally on all parts of your body to avoid muscle imbalance.

Age has nothing to do with fitness

Fitness can never be limited to a certain age group. To keep your body, mind healthy and active, it is suggested that everyone does at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. The only thing required is you enjoy doing exercises, irrespective of age or fitness level as it is rightly said, “The gym is not a social club for the fit. It is a training ground for everyone”. You just need to find a sport or physical activity that best suits you. There are many living examples of 60+ fitness freaks, which despite being in elderly age prefer staying fit and healthy.

Same or a different routine

It is always adventurous to try new workouts. In terms of performance, you can lack behind if you follow one single routine daily, as your body gets familiar with those exercises and your muscles won’t be challenged anymore. To keep the workout sessions interesting, you must try new workout exercises and try to come out of your comfort zone. You can do alternate exercises like strength training and cardio workouts.

Regular workout not equal to better results

Contrary to what it is usually taken as fact, you won’t get fitter faster by working out regularly for hours every day. It is therefore very important to take sufficient break so that the body gets enough time to recover. You must ensure 24 hours rest between each workout to decrease the risk of any injury or overtraining. Push your body to its max but beware ‘excess of everything is bad’.

Abs exercises for flat stomach

Various abs exercises such as knee-lifts, crunches, sit-ups, etc are well known to be effective abs strengtheners. But, these exercises work superficially on muscles around the waist. You need to do core isometric or pilates movements for your deep ab muscles. Apart from this, the way you breathe also matters. We tend to breathe the wrong way, which causes skin and abdomen wall to stretch. To avoid this, practice deep breathing.

You should do various fitness exercises regularly in order to keep your body fit and active. This not only helps you stay healthy physically and mentally but also reduces the risk of various diseases and injuries. ‘Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live’.
