KTM 790 DUKE LAUNCHES IN INDIA

The much-awaited KTM 790 Duke finally launched after a long series of speculations. This bike is eventually here while KTM attempted to come up with a motorcycle with displacement higher than 373 CC in India. The new model of 790 Duke was displayed for the first time early last year and stated that it would pave its way through the market of India as well.

The first performance bike 790 Duke is something that the company got but awaits for 790 Adventure and 390 Adventure as well. This bike also has been named as ‘Scalpel’ internationally because of its needle-sharp design and aggressive performance prowess.

Dimensions


This bike has a trellis frame with Aluminium built rear sub-frame to make it lightweight while the compact dimensions have a comparatively light kerb weight of 189kg only.

Speed and Performance

The KTM 790 Duke gets a 799 cc parallel twin-motor which churns out 103 bhp and 86 Nm apex torque paired up with 6-speed gearbox. For the first time, KTM has been chunked up with parallel-twin motor on one of its middleweight motorcycles. Its impeccable power to weight ratio is uniformly distributed with 612 bhp per tonne. The engine is tractable due to its 75 degree crank offset and 435-degree firing order. KTM has adhered to control the vibrations with its modified forged pistons and two counterbalancers.  

Design 


Along with the single-piece aluminium sub-frame, the razor-sharp sized fuel tank, inverted pitchfork LED Headlamp, split seats and a chunky LED taillight speaks a distinctive design language. The body panels tend to point towards the extensive weight-saving and the exhaust is placed under the seat. It also comes with a TFT LCD screen displaying important information of the motorcycle. The bike also rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wearing Maxxis Supermaxx ST Tyres.

Electronics Front


The 790 Duke comes with a comprehensive electrical suit loaded to the gills. It can be rode under four modes – Sport, Street, Rain and Track via the Bosch EMS with RBW. This bike packs 9 level traction control, launch control, wheelie control, slipper clutch and quick-shifter. Also, there is a six-axis IMU-based 9 level traction control with peak level lean-angle sensitivity, cornering ABS of Supermoto mode, engine brake control and a bi-directional quick-shifter.

This bike has been limited for sales and remains a BS4 compliant while it is locally assembled at the Bajaj-Chakan facility.

Price

This big capacity performance motorcycle is priced at Rs 8.63 lakh and has been the largest displacement offering from KTM India. KTM 790 Duke comes through Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route to keep prices competitive. It can, therefore, be positioned against middleweight offerings like MT-09, Kawasaki Z900 etc.
