It is that day of the month when the auspicious festival of
happiness and success radiate the air of harmony and wealth everywhere. Ganesh
Chaturthi is the festival where the vigna harta is welcomed to home and people
celebrate his 10-day long presence with a lot of happiness and frolic
enthusiasm.
Many Indians prepare delicacy called modaks on Ganesha
Chaturthi since it is considered as Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet. Indian festivals
are not just rich in colourful culture, rituals and joy but they also cultivate
excitement for the special delicacy that is prepared during the occasion. Food has been a way to unite people for years
since it adds the festive belongingness spirit amongst the people.
It is interesting to know that Lord Ganesha’s festival is
majorly associated with modaks because it is thought to be his favourite choice
of sweet and myth logically it is known that Lord Ganesh used to love these
sweet dumplings to the extent of stealing plates of them from Goddess Parvati.
While steamed modaks are the authentic ones, people have
created variations of modaks which are equally delectable. These modaks are not
so time-consuming and can be easily prepared at home. While preparing modaks
the only thing you’ve to keep in mind is that you inculcate twist of flavours
and devotion for the deity in order to create these tempting recipes. Following
are some unique and delicious recipes of modak that has equally proved to be
classic.
1. Moong Dal Modak
The Moong Dal paste, jaggery and coconut heave the
sweet taste of modak while the added cardamom powder enhances the deliciousness
of the sweet. The shiny appearance of these dumplings is quite tempting and the
fillings add the pleasant flavour. To make the filling, heat ghee in a pan and add the dal paste and fry
till the raw smell disappears followed by coconut and jaggery. Later sauté till
the paste forms one mass. Add cardamom powder.
2. Chocolate Modak
To make this mouth-watering sweet of chocolate, add milk, condensed milk and chocolate chips to the deep bottomed pan and boil it over medium flame. Add the graham cracker to the heating mixture and simmer well. Add chopped pistachios once the mixture starts thickening and mix well. Cooldown the mixture to the normal room temperature and grease the modaks with ghee or refined oil. Your chocolate modak is ready!
3. Rose Gulkand Modak
The stuffing is prepared by adding mawa to a pan and mixing well until it starts melting. Add sugar to the melting mawa, stir and add rose syrup to it. Keep mixing the ingredients until it stops sticking to the pan surface and cool down the temperature of the mixture. Fill in the stuffing to small parts of rolled dough, mould and serve.

Mango Modak
Mango Modaks adds to your festive mood for which you
need to start with a bowl of crumbled khoya and a pinch of cardamom powder for
taste and aroma. Add the crumbled khoya to a heating pan and add sugar, some
mango pulp to the melting khoya followed by a little saffron. Add the cooled
down mixture to the dough, mould it properly and you’re ready for the
celebration!
