PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation on 73rd
Independence Day for the sixth time from Red Fort. Followed by the hoisting of
the National Flag, PM began his speech that lasted around 92 minutes.
He commenced his speech by mentioning the major problems faced by
the nation. PM Narendra Modi shed light on key issues like Article 370, water
conservation, criminalisation of Triple Talaq and how the nation has the
potential to cross all obstacles to reach $ 5-trillion economy. He further
listed the steps taken by the nation for the welfare of the country.
“From 2014 to 2019, we became a $3 trillion economy.
Before that, in the last 70 years, the country was a $2 trillion economy. We
added $1 trillion to the economy in just five years. Now we are looking forward
to making the nation a $5 trillion economy," said Narendra Modi in his
speech.
He also stood up supporting the industrialists saying that the wealth creators should not be eyed with suspicion and should be given high respect. Following are the top highlights of 73rd Independence Day speech by the Prime Minister of India:-
PM extended
greetings for the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
At sharp 7:30 am PM Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolour
at Red Fort and commenced his speech by sending greetings to all his brothers
and sisters of the nation on the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
Floods
Narendra Modi then expressed his concern for the people
stuck in flood-affected areas by saying that many of the people are suffering
due to the catastrophe in various parts of the country. He also assured his
support by standing in solidarity with the people affected by floods.
Article 370
"If these provisions were so important for Jammu and
Kashmir's welfare, why previous governments left it as a temporary provision
despite multiple opportunities to do," said Narendra Modi attacking the
opposition. He said that within
70 days of the new government they removed Article 370 which was not done in the last 70 years. He also mentioned that every Indian can now confidently say ‘One
Nation, One Constitution’ on the successful removal of Article 370.
Jal Jivan Mission
Pushing the speech further he stressed his intentions majorly
on delivering the crucial idea behind Jal Jivan Mission. He said that both
central and the state government would be taking care of the mission together
and a total of Rs 3.70 lakh crore has been allotted for this mission. “The movement towards water conservation has to take place at the grassroots level.
It cannot become a mere Government programme. People from all walks of life
have to be integrated with this movement,” PM Modi said.
Birth Control
In an urge to promote small family rule, PM Narendra Modi
spoke about the increasing population in the country. He further asked the
nation to understand the importance of birth control in the country. Modi then
mentioned his government’s idea of ensuring ease of living in India with ease
of doing business. "Population explosion in the country will create
various problems for the coming generations. Those who follow the policy of
small family also contribute to the development of the nation, it is also a
form of patriotism," PM Modi said.
Rs 100 lakh crore investment
in infrastructure
PM Modi mentioned that a total of Rs100 lakh crore would be invested for
new infrastructures in the country like making roads, railways, bridges or
hospitals. "Today, according to the needs of the 21st century,
modern infrastructure is being set up," Narendra Modi said.
$ 5 trillion economy
target in 5 years
The crowd gushed when PM Modi said, “The target of nearly
doubling the size of the Indian economy to $5 trillion in five years may seem
difficult. But when we have in five years (of BJP rule) added $1 trillion as
compared to $2 trillion sizes achieved in 70 years of independence, then this
target is achievable." He further said that the government of India is stable, the policy system is unpredictable and the government has been taking steps to keep
prices under check and speed up the overall development.
India to have the chief
of defence staff
In an approach to taking strong actions for security and
defence, PM Modi announced the unity of all the three forces under one defence
head called the chief of defence staff. "We have
taken the decision to create Chief of Defence Staff position. This will be an
important step," says PM Modi.
Observed October 2 to be plastic-free
Freeing the country from a single use
of plastic, PM urged the nation to abandon the use of single-use plastic. He
further asked the start-ups to come up with plastic-free and recycling ideas. "On
October 2, let us pledge to make the country free of single-use plastic. On Diwali
let us gift people cloth bags instead of plastics. That will be an advertisement
for your company as well," Modi said.
100 Tourist
destinations in the country
PM Narendra Modi spoke of creating 100 tourist places in the
country and urged people to visit at least 15 tourist destinations before 2022.
He highlighted the importance of promoting tourism in terms of inviting guests
from other countries.
Apart from these
remarkable points, PM Modi encouraged farmers of our country to reduce the use
of fertilisers by at least 10-15% finishing off the longest speech ever
delivered by the prime minister.
