TOP 10 HIGHEST PAID SPORTSMEN IN THE WORLD

A sport is a field where elite players have earned more than anybody. With Forbes releasing its 2019 edition of world’s highest-paid athletes, Russel Wilson, Roger Federer, Lionel Messi and Lebron James have joined the top 10.

The cut-off to crack the world’s top 100 highest-paid athletes was decided to be $25 Million this year compared to $17.3 Million in 2018. Keeping track for almost 2 to 3 decades, Forbes has come up with 7 consistent athletes to hold the record at the top.  The list linearly combines 10 sports including sportsmen from 25 different countries.

Following is the list of top 10 highest-paid athletes whose salaries have soared up due to endorsements and prize money:-

1. Lionel Messi – Soccer


Lionel Messi, Barcelona’s captain is first in the list. The Argentine earned a total of $127 Million in the previous year and $92 Million was his salary. This global soccer icon added the eighth name to the roll call this year.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo – Soccer


Ronaldo took the number two position in the list with $109 Million income last year and his salary were up to $65 Million. His endorsement income ranges up to $44 Million.

3.  Neymar – Soccer

Neymar takes the third place in the list and is one of the most marketable athletes on the planet. Covering over 250 goals and hitting over a half-century for his country makes him the highest income grabber in European football. His income last year was $75 Million and earned up to $105 Million. 

4. Canelo Alvarez – Boxing


Alvarez pockets roughly $50 Million for his first two fights combined together on DAZN and are expected to earn around $35 Million in future. His earnings last year were $94 Million with $92 Million being his salary.

5. Roger Federer – Tennis


Roger returned to No.1 last year becoming the oldest man by more than three years to get the greatest men’s tennis player position. He has won prize money of around $124 Million in his career. He earns $86 Million from off-court partners like Credit Suisse, Mercedes Benz and other endorsements. Uniqlo contracted him in 2018 for a 10 year $300 deal. His earning last year was $93.4 Million. 

6. Russell Wilson – Football


Wilson’s per year salary averages up to $33.5 Million as a part of $134 Million extensions he signed with Green Bay Packers. He signed his previous deal of four years worth $87.6 Million at the beginning of a training camp in 2015 which expired next season. He had fallen 12th among NFL QBs. His net income last year was $89.5 Million.

7. Aaron Rodgers – Football


Rodgers of Switzerland had signed a four-year contract worth $134 Million and his salary is expected to be $20 Million per year. He is the fastest quarterback to reach 300 passing touchdowns and is 10th all-time with 338 total. His earning in 2018-19 was $89.3Million. 

8. Lebron James – Basketball


James is the 4 time NBA MVP of Los Angeles Lakers with a contract of 4 years worth $153 Million. With top endorsement portfolios, James earns a quarter of his income from a media company. He plans to spend $41 Million to send kids to college and he is also an investor. His net income was $89 Million.

9. Stephen Curry – Basketball


Curry is two times NBA MVP who signed his first contract of $200 Million grossing league’s top salary in the past two seasons. He is one of the most marketable athletes in the world. He had his company’s first movie released in April titled The Impossible. His net income is $79.8 Million.

10. Kevin Durant – Basketball


He had his 3 lined up under-valued contracts with the Warriors which paid around $30 Million in 2018-19. He left the Warriors and signed a 4 year deal of $164 Million with Brooklyn Nets. He gets paid $35 Million from sponsors and he is also an investor.  Kevin Durant Charity Foundation announced a $10 million commitment to bring the College Track academic program to his Maryland hometown. His earning has been $65.4 Million last year.
