Arsenic slowly poisoning crores of people in West Bengal.

West Bengal accounts for 1.05 crore out of India 1.48 crore population harmed by Silent Killer (arsenic).

At present, 30 per cent of the West Bengal population is so much affected slow poison Arsenic and causes lung diseases, skin cancer, and heart problems.

North area of West Bengal is the most affected area out of 12 districts of this state. Seriously affected areas are Nadis (17 blocks), Malda(9 blocks), Burdwan( 8 blocks), Hooghly(21 blocks) and Murshidabad(23 blocks). NITI Aayog centre takes this matter into consideration by providing state Rs 800 crore in March 2016, as one-time assistance. They provided 10-12 litres safe water per day.

People of West Bengal drinking arsenic-loaded water which is mainly drawn from tube-wells and it had led to the arsenic-related ailment.

"I have seen my mother, father and cousins die a painful and slow death from arsenic-related illness. There was no facility to treat these issues", said emaciated and pale Jaganabhandhu Mondal Person.

 

"Arsenic-related suffering families are forced to buy one water barrel for Rs 25 (which they can't afford sometimes). Every family suffer from these diseases and everyone is living in the perpetual fear of slow killer contamination", said Jaganabandhu.
 

Himela (51), Ajit Das (47) and Ananta Das (55) are counting last days of their life as they suffer from vulnerable diseases with scars on body and severe breathlessness with acute Arsenic Infection.

 

"I have lost all the hopes of recovery, till now 35 people of Gaighata died and some others are waiting to die”, Ajit Das said with struggling voice.

Over-dependence on the borewell water because of poor water management is the main cause of the problem, said Ashok Kumar- president of Arsenic Dushon Protirodh Committee.

Fund of Rs 100 crore had released by the Central Government for water-based piped supply in West Bengal, according to Recent Lok Sabha report by Minister of Water resources, Sanjeev Kumar.
